New Economy cannot accept responsibility for any externally provided training – these can be booked directly with the provider organisations.


Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Youth MHFA Training

Provided by Lancashire Training Solutions

Funding has been secured to deliver subsidised training in Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid in January, February and March 2012. The regular cost of £175 has been reduced to as low as £50 for some sessions (conditions apply).

What will I learn on an MHFA or Youth MHFA course?

  • Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in adults or young people
  • Feel confident helping an adult or young person experiencing a problem
  • Provide help on a first aid basis
  • Help prevent an adult or young person from hurting themselves or others
  • Help stop a mental illness from getting worse
  • Help someone recover faster
  • Guide someone towards the right support
  • Reduce the stigma of mental health problems

As an international programme, MHFA has been designed so that everyone would benefit from this training. However, it is of particular interest to:

  • Trade Union Reps
  • Physical First Aiders or Supportive Friends
  • Human Resources
  • Line Managers
  • Front line personnel
  • Teachers
  • Probation, Social and Youth Workers

Each delegate is provided with a comprehensive reference manual and a certificate of attendance on completion.

As places are limited, it’s first come first serve, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Friday 3rd February and Monday 6th FebruaryMHFA training, Burnley; Cost: £50*
Friday 24th February and Monday 27th FebruaryMHFA training, Accrington; Cost: £125**
Friday 23rd March and Monday 26th March – Youth MHFA training, Accrington; Cost: £125**

*Funder: Burnley Borough Council. Delegates must work or volunteer in Burnley or Padiham to qualify for a funded place.

Mental Health Training

Early intervention can help slow down or stop a mental health problem and lead to faster recovery. Taught over one day, Mental Health First Aid will assist you to:

  • Spot the early signs of a mental health problem
  • Feel confident helping someone experiencing a problem
  • Provide help on a first aid basis
  • Guide someone towards the right support
  • Reduce the stigma of mental health

This course is for line managers or anyone with responsibility of managing others. A range of dates are available in Liverpool until late March 2012.

Absence Management Training

Provided by Health@Work

This course is designed to help manage absences. The course includes:

  • Understand the common factors that can cause absence from work
  • Appreciate the importance of absence from work statistics
  • Learn how to best manage persistent short-term & long-term absence
  • Successfully conduct return to work interviews
  • Appreciate the legislation that applies to absence management
  • Apply various methods to assist in absence control & reduction of absence levels
  • Develop key aspects of absence policy & procedure for implementation

This course is for line managers or anyone with responsibility of managing others. A range of dates are available in Liverpool until mid-March 2012.
