Greater Manchester: the future in focus…

Is Greater Manchester on a secure path to economic recovery?

Where will future growth come from and what impact will public sector cuts have?

These key questions were discussed and debated at a dual event to launch the latest economic and demographic forecasts from the Greater Manchester Forecasting Model (GMFM); and the latest New Economy Working Paper (NEWP) focussing on Governance and the geography of economic change.

Is Greater Manchester on a secure path to economic recovery? (10.00am – 12.15pm)

For the past two years, Greater Manchester’s economy has been rocked by a period of unprecedented lobal economic turmoil. Imminent large scale public sector spending cuts and major economic policy changes will have an impact on the UK’s growth trajectory. Set within this context, Oxford Economics presented updated economic and demographic forecasts for Greater Manchester. The session included an open debate on the key implications for Greater Manchester and delivery of its ambitions for the future.
